FORD
MONDEO
Test
Track: Driving Standards Agency (DSA), Bedfordshire.
15th July 1998 Vehicle fitted with Tyron wheel safety
bands.
This vehicle
completed a high speed 'J' Turn (reverse spin) with the offside
(loaded) tyre blown mid-spin. It completed the complete defensive
driver training course, including 'Y' Turns, handbrake turns,
fast cornering, acceleration and stops, without the tyre
being stripped from the rim and with the driver able to maintain
complete control throughout. Tyron bands are used extensively
on vehicles where, for example, there is a risk of ambush
or terrorist attack, or when high risk personnel are being
carried. Training establishments (for example, the Army School
of Mechanical Engineering) fit Tyron bands as a matter of
necessity prior to carrying out evasive and defensive driver
training. |
