Tyron have an ongoing programme of
testing, working with vehicle, tyre
and
wheel manufacturers, vehicle convertors, emergency services, military, governmental
and security agencies.
Test Track:
Driving Standards Agency (DSA),
Bedfordshire. 15th July 1998.
Vehicle fitted with Tyron Extended Runflat System
'Standard' system.
With the front offside tyre 'blown' track
tests were conducted to include; high speed
left and right cornering, slalom, chicane,
lane change, traction capability and emergency
stop. This was followed by 30km (19 miles)
runflat at speeds up to 50kph (31mph). On completion
of the tests the tyre had not started to break
up (no damage visible to the eye). After removal
and inspection the runflat was reusable, after
being serviced.
VOLVO/EXCALIBUR
- FIRE APPLIANCE
Fully Laden approx 13 tons.
Test Track:
The Fire Service College, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. April 7th 1998.
Vehicle fitted
with Tyron wheel safety bands.
The front offside
tyre was 'blown' at 60mph and track tests were
conducted to include high speed straight line
stability, left and right cornering, 'lane
change' manoeuvres, slalom, 'roundabout' trials
and emergency stop. The vehicle handled well
throughout all trials and the wheel sustained
no damage.
FORD
TRANSIT
Fully laden (Driver + 8 passengers)
Test Track: RAF
Bentwater, Suffolk.
Vehicle fitted with Tyron
wheel safety bands.
The
front offside tyre was 'blown' at 60mph. The
vehicle was then driven through a varied course
at speeds up to 50mph for a distance of 4km (2.5
miles), with full control maintained throughout.
The wheel remained in perfect condition to the
end of the tests.
JAGUAR Police specification
Test Track: Driving
Standards Agency (DSA),
Bedfordshire. 15th July 1998.
Vehicle fitted
with Tyron wheel safety bands.
One
of many tests with current high speed police
vehicles. This was in conjunction with Jaguar
Cars SVO exploring the limits of high speed handling
and runflat distances on the tight handling course,
with speeds of up to 100mph attained with the
front right tyre 'blown'. While maintaining complete
driver control trials have now been completed
successfully up to speeds of 150mph, resulting
in almost universal adoption of Tyron bands by
UK police forces on a variety of vehicles. Extreme
risk police vehicles are also being fitted with
the Tyron Extended Runflat System system, where
an extended runflat is required.
